Time-pass. Decent family entertainer catering primarily to Dhanush fans.Director Velraj doesn't get his timing right this time.A highly entertaining 1st half shifts gears to fun filled with a sentimental touch in the interval block. Dhanush and Samantha performance have romance, comedy & sentiments but only to give us a long drawn out 2nd half & climax.
Heroines+ Amy Jackson is convincing & her romance with Dhanush fabulous. Samantha good, fits in perfectly as the wife.Makes a mark as the caring housewife. Looks too good for a middle class household. With Andrea's apt dubbing Amy Jackson scores too. The beer scene, her slapping scenes & intimacy with Dhanush stand out. What a seasoned actor radika is, authentically portrayed middle class mom, loved it.
KSR shines in a pivotal role.Sathish is fun.Super scene 1st night in a small joint family is a rocker.2nd half story slows down, villain motive & action not convincing. Hero’s 1st love falling out reason not strong.good thing about Thanga Magan is that it isn't the sequel to VIP. If it was, then it would've been even more disappointing.
The film looks rich, thanks to fantastic cinematography & fine cuts! Anirudh's songs & BGM complement the mood & tone nicely. The massy turn in the 2nd half didn't work as intended. conflicts & action moments don't work. and the film fizzled out in the end.On the whole decent family entertainer watchable.
Thanga Magan Cocktail rating: (2.9/5)
